Glossary So, what does it all mean...
Canopic jars - Four jars that held a mummy's internal organs (liver, lungs, intestines and stomach) Deciphered - To work out the meaning of writing or codes. Hieroglyphics - From the Greek for 'sacred carvings'. The oldest form of Egyptian writing using signs and symbols to represent sounds and things. Sarcophagus - A container for a corpse, similar to a coffin. Scribes - Person able to write or copy manuscripts. Silt - A sediment, layer, left by water. |
